Meet our highly qualified, experienced and passionate team at California Language Academy…
I believe in a professional, but fun and engaging classroom that uses more than just a textbook to learn a language. I have a love for travelling and discovering new cultures. This passion has led me to work as an English teacher in Barcelona, Cordoba, Auckland, Christ Church, San Francisco, San Diego, and Los Angeles. I have a large background in teaching a large variety of courses. My experience has been with teaching adults, children, group lessons, private lessons, exam courses, and Business English courses. I would love the chance to help you improve your language skills!
I have a background in accounting and finance and have a passion for business. My motto is “Life should be lived to the fullest!” I believe that you should love and be passionate about everything you do. I have traveled far and wide, lived in unique places and engaged in thrilling activities. All of this has shown me that I love watching people learn, grow and have experiences that they will remember for the rest of their lives. So, opening a language school was the perfect fit for me personally and professionally. Let me help you have the language experience of a lifetime.
My name is Janine and I am originally from Magdeburg, Germany. I studied Education and Media at Otto von Guericke University in Magdeburg. In 2011, I moved to Los Angeles and have lived here ever since. I started at CLA as a student in 2012 and never left. 🙂 I deeply enjoy languages and am especially curious about the different food and cultures of our students. After being the Student Services Manager for 4 years, I recently was promoted to Director of Marketing due to my passion for design and student recruitment. Aside from my chocolate addiction, I am unbelievably curious, so I am looking forward to meeting all of you and to getting to know you a little better!
My name is Diego and I am Brazilian, born and raised close to the ocean in the beautiful city of Salvador. I have a Bachelor in Business and Administration from the Federal University of Bahia, and I am totally passionate for International Education and different cultures! During my life, I have lived/studied and worked in various countries such as China, Canada, Ireland, and Spain, and now I dedicate myself to helping students realizing their dreams in a paradise called California!
I proudly call myself a “Mainer”, but at 18 I got the travel bug and I’ve been living all over the world! In the US- Utah, Florida, North Carolina, and now California! I spent the last 5 years living in the Bahamas, Finland, Italy, and England. I feel so fortunate to have spent so much time outside of the USA as it has opened my mind, taught me about different cultures, and has enabled me to meet so many people from different walks of life. Outside of work you can find me cooking, volunteering, surfing, playing soccer, or doing anything outdoors! I look forward to welcoming all of our students, learning with them, and making memories that will last a lifetime.
My name is John, and I was born and raised in Long Beach, California. I studied English and Linguistics at California State University Dominguez Hills in Carson, California. My hobbies include playing soccer, snowboarding, hiking, spending time with my dog, and occasionally writing when the urge strikes. I started working at CLA in the summer of 2016 and I’ve enjoyed every minute of it. It has been a privilege and a blessing to have worked with and learned from every single student that has walked through these doors.I have an affinity for cultures and people that I fear may never be satisfied, and I truly feel that we discover the most about ourselves through others. With that said, I look forward to meeting you and learning about your culture while sharing a bit of mine =).
My name is Talia and I was born and raised in the Central Valley of California. I recently moved to Los Angeles in 2016 and I love getting to know the city and everything it has to offer. I studied Spanish and Language Studies at Fresno Pacific University in Fresno, California. Before college I studied abroad in Argentina and my language learning experience there became my motivation for teaching English to international students. My favorite part of my job is learning about different cultures and connecting with my students. I love to help my students achieve their academic goals and create an environment where they feel comfortable learning and using the English language. Outside of the classroom I love to drink coffee, do yoga, and hang out with my husband, Noah, and dog, Lexa. 🙂
I was born and raised in Worcester, Mass. My early education was based there. I came to Los Angeles and developed a love for music, travel and teaching. I went on to the university where I studied Sociology and Special Education. I backed this up with volunteer work in the Head Start Program and private language tutoring. Later on I was introduced to the field of ESL and started teaching at an language school for International students. While teaching there, I was given the opportunity to study in a TESOL program and receive a certificate. I have been involved in this fields for thirty years and have had different chances to work on curriculum; direct, mentor, and teach all levels and classes. I have also grown and developed more expertise by attending various seminars and conferences. I want to take this opportunity to express how fortunate I feel for my long career and the opportunity to be part of CLA for the past years.
I am originally from Michigan and have lived in many different places, including New York, California, Tennessee, and Arizona; I recently spent four years living in Shanghai, China. I enjoys being outdoors, playing music, and making new friends. I’ve taught students in Central Park in New York City, at the bottom of the Grand Canyon, in university classrooms, and in language schools. I can help you improve your English, but I enjoy learning from the students in my classroom most of all.
Hi! My name is Mel. I grew up in northern Italy, but moved to Los Angeles when I was 19. I completed my Master’s degree in Linguistics in 2015 and my passions are phonetics (the sounds of a language) and syntax (grammar). I decided I wanted to teach languages when I taught an Italian class at my University as a substitute teacher. It came very naturally to me and I had a lot of fun doing it. You know what they say… “Find a job you love and you’ll never work a day in your life!” Now I teach both ESL and Italian at CLA and I am very happy about that. Fun facts about me: I hate cooking, but I love food. I can solve Rubik’s Cube in about a minute. I love all animals. I look forward to meeting the you and welcoming you to our wonderful school in sunny Los Angeles!
My name is Rachel and I’m extremely excited to be a part of such a great school and to have to opportunity to work with students from many different countries. I was born in Colombia, South America and came to the United States as a young child where I grew up the Midwest. I went to school in New York City and then moved to California which I now call home. I’ve had the chance to both travel and live aboard and have found that these have been some of the most rewarding experiences of my life. I look forward to meeting you and sharing how wonderful life here in San Diego truly can be.
