Staff Spotlight_Talia_June 2017This week we want to introduce our fantastic teacher Talia. Talia has been with us for 4 months now and has enriched our daily lives with her positive attitude and enthusiasm. We spoke to her so that you can get to know her as well.

Q: Hey Talia, can you tell us a little about yourself?
A: My name is Talia and I was born and raised in the Central Valley of California. I recently moved to Los Angeles in 2016 and I love getting to know the city and everything it has to offer. I studied Spanish and Language Studies at Fresno Pacific University in Fresno, California. Before college I studied abroad in Argentina and my language learning experience there became my motivation for teaching English to international students. My favorite part of my job is learning about different cultures and connecting with my students. I love to help my students achieve their academic goals and create an environment where they feel comfortable learning and using the English language. Outside of the classroom I love to drink coffee, do yoga, and hang out with my husband, Noah, and rescue dog, Lexa.

Q: Where did you go to college? What degrees do you have?
A: Fresno Pacific University. B.A. in Spanish, minor in Language Studies and a TESOL certificate.

Q: Where did you grow up? Did you move around a lot? If yes, how did this affect you? If no, how did the stability of living in one place all your life affect you?
A: I grew up in Visalia, CA. I was born and raised there my entire childhood and didn’t leave until I went to study abroad in Argentina. Looking back I love that I was raised in a small community. We had a very fun theater arts community that I loved being a part of as a kid.

Q: Do you love to travel? If so, where have you been and where do you want to go?
A: Yes, I love to travel. I lived in Argentina for 9 months and Costa Rica for 4 months. As a kid my family took us on trips to Mexico, the Bahamas, and Canada. My next trip will hopefully be to the East Coast or England.

Q: What is your biggest dream in life?
A: My biggest dream in life is to travel the world with my husband. I love to meet people from different cultures and I would love to live in at least 3 more countries.

Q: If you had a super power, which one would it be?
A: If I had a superpower it would be the ability to communicate with anyone I encountered. I would love to know every language without having to study!

Q: What is most rewarding about your job?
A: The best part of my job is when I see a student gain self confidence in their abilities to connect and communicate with others. Learning a new language helps to connect people to one another and being even a small part of that is very rewarding.

Q: What would you do with 1 Million Dollars?
A: Honestly, I would buy a house and save the rest so I could retire early and travel the world.

Q: If I walked into your classroom on a typical day, what would I see going on?
A: Lots of discussion! I like to have my students practice speaking in English while in the classroom as much as possible. It is the most comfortable environment for them to practice and make mistakes in.

Thank you Talia! Come to CLA to meet Talia and the rest of our wonderful team.
