CAE/FCE Exam Preparation – Program Objectives
The CAE/FCE exam preparation class is specifically designed for people who need English for test taking. You will improve the full range of language skills – speaking, listening, reading, and writing and actively practice common oral communications, improve speech patterns and pronunciation skills, and speak with others with improved confidence about test specific topics. You will develop the grammar skills necessary to communicate clearly and accurately in all skill areas. Furthermore, you will develop a firm grasp of test specific vocabulary, etiquette, and practices and will learn how to manage your time wisely, how to effectively apply critical thinking strategies including argumentation, questioning, evaluation, and multiple points of view to draw conclusions, and how to use reflective learning strategies and self-evaluation techniques to monitor your progress and learning. You will practice reading, interpreting, and comparing a variety of informational texts, including historical texts, scientific texts, and lectures. You will also develop the skills to analyze graphs, and tables and will develop the ability to identify the author, audience, purpose, main ideas, and key information in complex texts. Additionally, you will further expand your life skills vocabulary, refine your listening and note-taking skills, and practice writing clear and descriptive, comparative, persuasive, and analytical essays with different points of view.
